The Evolution of Jeans

ladies' jeans

Jeans began as practical work pants, made from durable denim. In the 1870’s, Levi Strauss developed riveted jeans to make the work jeans he sold even more sturdy. Sailors around the world, miners in the California Gold rush and factory workers in World War II all wore jeans. We can thank American teenagers of the 1950’s for popularizing jeans as everyday clothes!

Jeans have seen a lot of changes! Originally, men’s jeans had the zipper down the front, but women’s jeans had the zipper on the right side of the hip. Dark blue denim and faded blue jeans have both been popular, as have skinny jeans, bellbottoms, flares, oversize loose jeans and every fit in the middle. Thimbler can help you get a good fit for your jeans for working in the yard, going to school, going downtown or anything in between. Jeans have come a long way from the durable, practical workpants to today’s go-with-anything style!
